 Audio Video Instruction Manual

I hope that this info will help you get the most out of the homes audio video components. The following are the default settings that I have tested for proper operation. If the system is not working correctly you will need to check the defaults. Since this is a rental house and children are often guests do not be surprised if you have to reset to the default settings.

To operate Audio/ Video open the doors so that the remote can see the equipment. Press ALL ON while aiming the remote at  the TV and components. Allow the remote a few seconds to send all of the ON signals to all of the components. (This may be upgraded later so that the doors can stay closed.) The AUX button should operate the DVD. The Denon AMP must be controlled with its own remote.

The Comcast remote will turn on all of the equipment at once by pressing the red ALL ON button. To start with all components should be in the OFF position. If not pressing All On will turn the ON unit OFF. If so you will need to manually turn that OFF unit ON.

If purchases are made using Xfinity, Apple TV or Amazon Firestick these will become property of the house. You will need to pay for those via Paypal by sending payment to plattj@gmail.com. If I need to bill you after the fact all purchases will incur a $5 administrative charge per item purchased. Any swaps of equipment or playing with the attached cables will incur a charge to return to normal.

Media Room at front of the House

Samsung Plasma TV should always be set to HDMI1. You set this by using the Samsung TV Remote and pressing Source in the middle of the controller. A red light at the center button means TV is off. The TV receives all the signals from the AV Receiver over HDMI1. For best results let the Denon provide the sound and plug accessories into the Denon AV Receiver.

Denon AVR-X2000 Receiver controls all sources and sound in the house. This unit has two discrete AMPS in it. You can operate them individually or together. Zone 1 is the 5:1 speaker system in the Media Room. Zone 2 is the other four areas of the house. Living Room, Dining Room, Back Living Room and Patio. Each of these areas has it’s own volume control on the wall of the room. The principle Denon sources are.

  • TV/Cable – to watch TV or play Comcast music channels from the Comcast Cable Box / STB
  • Network – to listen to internet programs like Sirius XM (free), Pandora, Internet Radio
  • IPhone – to use a USB cable attached IPhone although you can also use Airplay on this system.
  • DVD to watch DVDs through the Sony DVD player
  • Media Player to watch Apple TV

You can control the Amp in two ways. 1) By using the supplied Denon Remote or 2) By using the Denon Remote App with your Android or Apple device. It is a free download and can be deleted when you leave the house. The app is handy because it allows you to control the Amp from anywhere in the house. The remote only works in the Media room itself. Do not try to manually control the Denon.

TO PLAY A TV SHOW OR DVD

Open the door to the components. Set Zone 1 to the Cable TV source. Zone 2 should be set to another source or off if you do not want the shows sound to be heard throughout the house.

TO PLAY MUSIC THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE

Press Zone 2 Power and select your source. Press Zone 1 Power on and select your source. To play the same source throughout the house make sure that the source for Zone 1 is the same as the source for Zone 2. You can set the volume for each zone and also make adjustments in each room.

CAUTION – Do not play the Patio speakers loudly and never when no one is out on the patio. There is separate volume controller near the door that leads outside to the patio.

GENERAL

I hope that this info will help you get the most out of the homes audio video components. The following are the default settings that I have tested for proper operation. If the system is not working correctly you will need to check the defaults. Since this is a rental house and children are often guests do not be surprised if you have to reset the default settings.

XFinity Comcast remote will turn on all of the equipment at once by pressing the red ALL ON button. To start with all components should be in the OFF position. If not pressing All On will turn the ON unit OFF. If so you will need to manually turn that OFF unit ON.

To operate Audio/ Video press ALL ON while aiming the remote at the TV and components. Allow the remote a few seconds to send all of the ON signals to all of the components. The AUX button will operate the DVD.

LG SOUND BAR must be turned on to supply better sound than the TV normally would. There is a separate remote control for this. The Bar should turn on and off automatically in normal use. If it doesn’t then press the Auto Power button to restore default setting. Press the left power button to manually turn on the Sound Bar. You can observe the LG Sound Bar settings on the top read out of the Sound Bar just under the TV. Make sure the Bar Input is set to DIGI.1 so it gets sound signals from the TV. Digi.2 is not used. Analog if for attaching an IPOD but it is better to play an IPOD or IPhone through the Apple TV AirPlay. Change the Bar input by pressing the O/A Input button.

LG LCD TV will need to have it’s source set to whatever you want to play.
Use the LG TV Remote / Press the Source Button / Select the source you want to use.

The sources (as of May 2017) are…

  • HDMI-1 is the Cable STB box from Comcast – use this for TV shows
  • HDMI-2 is the Sony DVD player for watching movies
  • HDMI-3 is the Amazon FireStick player for watching movies, youtube and web content
To mirror devices like a tablet to the Firestick see

To mirror Apple Products you will need a separate Miracast device – see

If whole house music is playing and you want to watch TV in the back room then simply turn down the volume in the back room using the dial to the left of the fireplace. There is also another volume controller near the door that leads out to the patio.
